Private Tutoring Methods

Our teaching methods center around teacher-directed learning strategies and spaced repetition learning. Our expert tutors support our students through concepts with clarity and structure. We focus on direct instruction by focusing a major part of our time discussing and explaining the key concepts to our students to build transferable knowledge of the material covered. This is the learning process, where the students gain more knowledge about the topic and make more connections with other topics and fundamental knowledge they already bring to the private tutoring lessons. Our tutors adapt their instruction depending on the students’ situtations and individual needs, providing professionally individually tailored support to our students.

What a lesson looks like

Since our lessons are individually tailored to the student’s needs and situation, our lessons are often following different structures for different students.

Our private tutoring lessons follow the same curriculum as the students are learning in school. We cover the same topics at the same time, because we want our students to not only benefit from the tutoring but also bring their enhanced knowledge to school. Being able to complete more practice exercises and interacting more during school time is a key part of learning, which is why our lessons are centrered around their current topics.

Here is a general structure of how we utilize our time:

  • 30-40% of the lesson: Tutors discuss the topic with the student, explaining key ideas and demonstrating key problem-solving strategies for the current topics.

  • 50% of the lesson: Students work on practice problems with the tutor together, giving tutors the ability to provide instant feedback to students whenever needed.

  • Remaining time: Students indidepnent work on practice problems (usually towards the end) and review of the last lesson (usually at the beginning of a lesson). This helps our students remember learnt topics for longer and challenges them.

  • Homework examples: Our tutors provide homework examples for our students to support students long term learning. These examples are supposed to take students 5 minutes a day rather than an hour a week and review key concepts

  • PDF or In person Notes: You can see we focus majorly on working together with the student, weather it is during the explanation phase where we demonstrate examples or when tutors give immediate feedback and discuss students work. This is why we provide students with PDF notes of their lessons. These are simply a copy of all material covered and can differ in lenght. One week there may be more explaining and hence there is more notes whereas another week there is more practical work on worksheets.
